Greetings from the Chicago Journalism Unity Picnic

Published September 1, 2023

Current and former staff members of the McKinley Park News enjoyed a fantastic evening connecting with others in Chicago's news community at the Chicago Journalism Unity Picnic on Thursday, August 31, 2023.

Sponsored by the National Association of Black Journalists, the Asian American Journalists Association, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists, the Trans Journalists Association and the Chicago Headline Club, with support from Block Club Chicago, the picnic brought together journalists from around the city to enjoy a lovely evening on Hyde Park's Promontory Point.

Welcome Back, Ankita!

Globe-trotting journalist and documentarian Ankita Mukhopadhyay — who cut her teeth on fantastic neighborhood reporting for the McKinley Park News during her journalism graduate work at Northwestern University's Medill School — is passing through Chicago and joined us, sharing her journalism tales from Washington, D.C., Asia and San Francisco.

The picnic was a great chance for Ankita, as well as Correspondent Kevin O'Neil and Publisher Justin Kerr, to talk with fellow professionals, meet other Chicago journalists and celebrate with McKinley Park News staff. Many thanks to the above hosts for producing it for the good of Chicago's journalism community!
